Books on my TBR pile in 2022

TBR: To Be Read

The amount of unread books on my bookshelf actually outnumbers the amount that I have read, so that needs to change in 2022.

I'm a big lover of books, always have been, but don't make time for it like I used to.  In 2022 I aim to change that, with a big stack to get through, and a modest-to-some challenge of 15 books by the end of the year.
(Last year the goal was 15 and I managed 6, oops)

To motivate me, and hopefully you, I've compiled my Top 5 I'm looking forward to most.

Let's start with a fun but a bit nerdy one:
Toksvig's Almanac 2021 - Sandi Toksvig

Now this does say 2021, though I've already read the introduction and the January chapter (each chapter is very satisfyingly one month, so I plan to read this steadily as the year goes on).

So far it doesn't seem to be 2021 specific, and is a lovely collection of facts and stories that my ultimate womancrush Sandi Toksvig thinks we should know more about.
I'm very much enjoying it and feel like I'll probably dip into it year after year!

You're Not Broke You're Pre-Rich - Emilie Bellet

Let me tell you a title has never spoke to me more than this one has!
I love a bit of financial motivation, and this promises to be a light but informative read on how to take care of those pennies and spend wisely.

My partner and I plan to buy our first home this year, so lord knows I'll take all the advice I can get.  My brother actually bought this for me way back in 2020, and maybe if I'd read it sooner I would've bought the house by now.
I can't wait to see what advice I can gleam from its pages.

The Complete Gardener - Monty Don

Now, the secret pensioner in me comes out.
First I have to admit, I didn't buy this book directly, I purchased a six month subscription to the Gardeners World magazine (they send you packs of seeds with issues!), and this came as a free welcome gift.
Well, I was ecstatic when it arrived.  This is probably the chunkiest book I have ever owned, at 440 very large pages, complete with beautiful photographs of our Monty's garden.

This is less of a book to read page by page, and more one to use as a resource when there's a garden related query. That being said, I'm sure I'll be flicking through many of these pages come Spring when I'm starting to plant my veg in my modest back garden.

The Little Book of Vegan Bakes - Holly Jade

I only recently discovered Holly on instagram, who has amassed quite the following by being possibly one of the best vegan home bakers I've ever seen.
Her book is being published late January 2022, and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
As a vegan, nothing is more satisfying than making something delicious and serving it to non-vegans for them to ask,
"Is this really vegan??"
Holly's book looks set to deliver on that a thousand times over.

Whites: On Race and Other Falsehoods - Otegha Uwagba

A slightly more serious one to finish with, this essay by Otegha Uwagba responds to the shocking events in 2020 that led everyone to start having deeper conversations on race, and reflect on themselves and the people and systems built around them.
Post 2020, it's important that everyone takes their responsibility to educate themselves on minority issues seriously.  I think this book will be a fantastic preface into that education, along with many others by equally talented authors and activists.

And that concludes my top 5 picks for 2020, a bit of a mix, but what's life without a little variety.  You'll notice I'm definitely a non-fiction kind of lady, what can I say I'm a nerd that likes to learn!

Stay tuned for upcoming book reviews and a post at the end of the year featuring every book I managed to read from now til then!
